1,2-propanediol is an organic compound with the chemical formula C3H8O2. It is a colorless, viscous liquid under normal conditions, almost odorless, and slightly sweet when smelled. It is miscible with water, ethanol, and various organic solvents. Pro glycol has two isomers, and unless otherwise specified, pro glycol generally refers to 1,2-propanediol.
1,2-propanediol can be prepared by hydration of epic, hydrolysis of 1,2-dich and oxidation of prop. Prop glycol can be used in cosmetics, toothpaste, and soap as a wetting agent in combination with glycerol or sorbitol. It is also used as a moisture regulator and hair stabilizer in hair dyes, as well as an antifreeze. It is also used in glass paper, plasticizers, and the pharmaceutical industry.
chemical property
1. Combustible liquid. Has hygroscopicity and does not corrode metals. React with dicarboxylic acid to produce polyester, react withto produce nitrate ester, and react with hyd to produce chlorohydrin. Heat it with dilute sulfuric acid at 170 ºC to transform it into ace. Oxidize with or chromic acid to produce hydroxyacetic acid, oxalic acid, acetic acid, etc. React with aldehydes to form acetals. Dehydration of 1,2-propanediol produces oxidized prop or polyethylene glycol.
Packaging, storage and transportation
The product is packaged in plastic drums, and the packaging size can be divided into three specifications: 25kg, 100kg, 210kg, etc., or the packaging specifications can be organized according to user requirements.
application area
Proe glycol is an important raw material for unsaturated polyester, epoxy resin, polyurethane resin, plasticizer, and surfactant, accounting for about 45% of the total consumption of pro glycol. This unsaturated polyester is widely used in surface coatings and reinforced plastics. Pro glycol has good viscosity and moisture absorption, and is widely used as a hygroscopic agent, antifreeze, lubricant, and solvent in the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics industries. In the food industry, prop glycol reacts with fatty acids to form pr glycol fatty acid esters, which are mainly used as food emulsifiers; Pro glycol is an excellent solvent for seasoning and coloring. Due to its low toxicity, it is used as a solvent for spices and food coloring in the food industry. Pro glycol is commonly used in the pharmaceutical industry as a solvent, softener, and excipient in the manufacture of various ointments and ointments. It is also used as a solvent for adjuvants, preservatives, ointments, vitamins, penicillin, and other substances in the pharmaceutical industry. Due to its good solubility with various spices, prop glycol is also used as a solvent and softener in cosmetics. 1,2-propanediol is also used as a humidifier and mold inhibitor for tobacco, as well as a solvent for lubricating oil in food processing equipment and food labeling inks. The aqueous solution of 1,2-propanediol is an effective antifreeze. It is also used as a tobacco wetting agent, mold inhibitor, fruit ripening preservative, antifreeze, and heat carrier.
Security measures
Measures for safe operation: Do not inhale or come into contact with this product. Can only be used in areas with good air circulation. Thoroughly clean with water after handling or use.
Conditions for safe storage: Although this product will not self ig, it is flammable. Long term storage does not spoil, but when opened, it absorbs moisture. Storage and transportation containers should be made of galvanized iron drums, aluminum, or stainless steel. Store and transport according to the regulations for general low toxicity chemicals. Avoid contact with water and humid environments. The storage tank must be kept clean, dry, and rust free. It must be stored in a place with embankments, good air circulation, and away from direct sunlight, open flames, and other heat sources. It is recommended to use nitrogen sealing for large storage tanks (with a capacity of 100 m3 or more). Keep the container sealed. Keep dry.
Storage temperature: up to 40 ° C.
